After the city\u2019s decline, Charents wrote about its final years, portraying Kars as a symbol of loss. The text intertwines the comic and the tragic against political and historical circumstances. During and after World War I, the city is depicted as a stage for clashes between Eastern and Western, conservative and liberal ideas.<br \/>\u201cLand of Nairi\u201d was published four times during Charents\u2019 lifetime and posthumously re-edited twice, with numerous reprints.
