Description
The book collects various examples of popular Latvian fairy tales, a significant portion of which are relatively recent—they only have a history of a few centuries. Originally, and more often, they existed as a successful outline or literary adaptation by some author. Nevertheless, the characters, content, and scenes of these fairy tales have echoes in the distant past: in the myths, epics, and oral traditions of ancient peoples, in written records dating back over two millennia, as well as in old ritual texts and laws.
